I was invited to the unveiling of the new Point of Interest sign at the Sayward Dock. The sign highlights the artillery installation on Yorke island which can be seen in the background.

2/25/2018 1 Comment Day of Action - 25 February 2018Had a great day talking on the phone with a bunch of great people in the Langley-Aldergrove EDA. For those that I haven't contacted yet, we're looking for your opinion on some great pieces of policy that will be debated at the 2018 Liberal Party of Canada Convention in Halifax in April. Check out the policies here and then put your votes in when the prioritization vote starts on 4 March. Let us know what's important to you! Talk about it with your friends. YOU can make a difference. Need some help in understanding the context behind each of the policies? Drop me an email at Leon@leonjensen.ca and we can work out a coffee meeting with you and your friends. Can't make it to the convention? Make sure your Liberal membership is up to date and then help us prioritize the policies. Would you like to donate to the Langley-Aldergrove Electoral District? Check out the Victory Fund and make your donation out either the national fundraising campaign or your local riding, the choice is yours.
2/24/2018 2 Comments Conference on Defence and SecurityCurrently returning from the Conference on Defence and Security hosted by the Canadian Defence Association as well as their Annual General Meeting. It was an excellent event and I would encourage all Canadians to search the CDAI website for information about security issues that affect all Canadians. The topics covered over the two day event included: Security and Defence Challenges of the Future, Taking Advantage of Disorder, Harnessing National Capacity for Security and Defence and Implications for Building Military Forces in the future.
2/17/2018 0 Comments Exchange Teachers - CurlingThe BC Exchange Teachers Association attempts to provide a glimpse into some of our iconic Canadian cultural events for our exchange teachers. Today was a chance for some of the Aussies and our Brit teachers to try their hand at curling! No foreign teachers were damaged in the filming of this event!
1/31/2018 1 Comment Australia adventureCatherine and I are on the executive of the BC Exchange Teachers Association where we provide information, assistance and social contacts to teachers from around the world that have exchanged their job position and house with a Canadian teacher from BC. Our current group includes teachers from Australia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
Our new house completion was delayed by two months so we decided to make the best of a winter escape and ran off to Australia to catch up with some of the former exchangees and one of our current Canadian teachers that had just arrived in Sydney. It was an exciting 5 weeks of planes, trains and automobiles and gave us a wonderful opportunity to discuss some of the highlights and pitfalls of the exchange process with some of our alumni. Sydney to Melbourne, to Bendigo, Perth, Albany, Adelaide, Wodonga, Canberra and then back to Sydney. What a whirlwind tour! What great Australian hospitality! We gathered a lot of great info and look forward to any of our Aussie friends visiting us in Aldergrove when they come across the "big ditch" on their next adventure. 12/11/2017 0 Comments Byelection South Surrey-White RockHad a great time providing some assistance to the Gordie Hogg election team. Knocking on doors with Member of Parliament for Cloverdale-Langley City, John Aldag, knocking on other doors with a fellow DSS grad and meeting the rest of the team at the campaign office. Quite the election buzz. Great feeling to see a good man win!
11/11/2017 0 Comments Remembrance Day 2017My Remembrance Day was focused on the Gunners of the 15th Field Artillery Regiment RCA who are tasked with firing the 21 Gun salute at Portside Park in commemoration of all those that have died in the service of Canada. Last year we began the tradition of having the "Old Guard" in attendance fall in with the soldiers on parade. the tradition we established was that the Old Guard troop commander on parade would be the oldest Commanding Officer in attendance and the troop Sergeant Major would be the oldest Regimental Sergeant Major in attendance. This year it turned out that I was the oldest Commanding Officer in attendance and I had the honour in commanding the Old Guard on parade. Admittedly, I looked the part as I had just thrown my back out and was walking with the aid of a cane. Fortunately my Regimental Sergeant Major, Brian Cormier, was there to ensure that the Old Guard looked good on parade. Lest we forget!
11/4/2017 0 Comments Fraser Valley Wine FestivalCatherine and I assisted the Rotary Club of Langley Central with their Fraser Valley Wine Festival on Saturday night. The Club started the Wine Festival in 1989 and has raised over a million dollars for local charities and worthwhile projects. Great bunch of people in the Langley Central Club! Have you thought of doing worthwhile projects in the community? Get in touch with your local Rotary and find out how to become a member!
I attended the Royal Canadian Artillery Association Annual General Meeting in Ottawa from the 12 to 14 October. It consisted of a day of briefings on the state of the Royal Canadian Artillery and a look into the way ahead. The discussion centred on joint targeting, the future of Ground Based Air defence and millennials in today's military. Saturday was focused on the RCAA and the expectations of our membership among other subjects. There was some excellent discussion and the topic will be open for further discussion throughout the year. The event was completed with the appointment of a new executive of which I am now the Vice President.
10/7/2017 0 Comments Fort Langley Cranberry FestivalA big "Hurrah" for the organizers of the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival. Great crowds. It certainly looked like everyone was enjoying the event. Keep up the good work! We enjoyed a great family outing that finished off with activities at the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Always a fun family time.
