6/1/2019 0 Comments Adopt a streetWe just completed our first neighbourhood clean up as part of the Township of Langley Adopt-a-Program which provides all the supplies. Catherine and I spent an hour picking up some of the garbage that tends to be discarded by some of less caring individuals. Overall, there was surprisingly little garbage! There was only one fast food wrapping discard, some plastic in the detention ponds and a couple of doggie bags left behind. Mind you, there were a lot of cigarette butts and those plastic cigarillo tips apparently never decompose! On the plus side: a bald eagle sighting, loads of swallows and a couple of red-winged blackbirds. We live in a fantastic neighbourhood!

4/23/2019 0 Comments BC Heritage AwardsAll the great work on Yorke Island will be recognized at the BC Heritage Conference 2019 when the team is presented with certificates for Heritage Planning and Management. I was involved with a team that included Richard Linzey and Ursula Pfahler from the Heritage Branch, Denise Cook from Denise Cook Designs, Ben Gourley and Gord Macdonald from Heritageworks Ltd, Hayley Datoo, Sharilynn Wardrop, Jim Spowart and David Jack from BC Parks and Ross Keller from the 85VICS.
They're all a great team to work with and the products that were produced were awesome! Looking forward to great things in Yorke Island's future! 4/16/2019 0 Comments Diversity4/5/2019 0 Comments Other commitmentsNot enough hours in the day? It's already Friday and my to do list for the week is only half done! A big check went in the box for the Regimental Centennial Glasses project. The first batch arrived on Wednesday and I spent several hours sorting them out for the members that had pre-purchased. 3/31/2019 0 Comments Nomination ProcessHomework, the fish hatchery and yoga, Talk about a busy Sunday. There was even time to make a dozen phone calls, find some additional supporters to sign my nomination papers and receive an offer for additional funding support for the campaign! Thanks for showing your support as we work to bring some real representation to Ottawa!
A big shout out to the great gang that work for the Township of Langley Parks and Recreation. You guys rock! Well, then again maybe that was me rocking and creaking during today's yoga class. It sure felt great to stretch some of those muscles.
I can't say enough about the programmes that TOL Parks and Rec have put in place and the facilities that they maintain. You're a big part of what makes this community great! 3/31/2019 0 Comments Fish releaseI was up early this morning to help the Nicomekl Enhancement Society release some fry into our local waterways. Unfortunately it appears that they're not quite ready yet. We'll give them a couple of days and sometime during this week there'll be thousands of them making their way to the ocean. Hope to see some of them back in a couple of years.
